MANILA, Philippines – NorthPort guard John Amores found himself in a bind once more after being identified as the suspect of a shooting incident in Laguna on Wednesday, September 25.
Amores allegedly fired at a certain Lee Cacalda following a heated exchange during a basketball game in Barangay Salac in Lumban.
Based on the initial report of the Lumban Municipal Police Station, Amores challenged Cacalda to a fistfight, and when they reached nearby Barangay Maytalang Uno, the PBA player shot at the victim using an unidentified firearm.
Cacalda, fortunately, sustained no injuries.
Authorities are now in search of Amores, who escaped the scene of the crime as shown in CCTV footage that has made the rounds on social media.
The shooting incident came two years after the former JRU Heavy Bomber ran amok and punched four St. Benilde Blazers players during an NCAA game.
Amores got suspended by the NCAA and banned by JRU.
Promising to get his act together, Amores opted to turn professional and joined the PBA Season 48 Rookie Draft last year, with the Batang Pier taking him as the 51st overall pick.
NorthPort head coach Bonnie Tan said the team has been made aware of the shooting incident.
The NorthPort team management also declined to comment, noting the incident remains “under investigation.”
Amores, now in his second season in the PBA, concluded the ongoing Governors’ Cup with averages of 5.1 points and 1.6 rebounds. – Rappler.com
