MANILA, Philippines – The keenly awaited PBA debut of Justine Baltazar is just around the corner as the No. 1 overall pick in the previous draft signed with Converge.

The FiberXers announced the signing of the talented big man on Wednesday, December 11, sparking excitement for the young franchise seeking to make a splash in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Baltazar finally joins Converge after missing the entire season-opening Governors’ Cup due to his commitment to the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

He led Pampanga to a successful title defense as the Giant Lanterns swept the Quezon Huskers in the finals to became the first MPBL team to win back-to-back championships.

In a class of his own, Baltazar averaged 15.7 points, 16.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals for the 2024 season to capture a second straight Most Valuable Player award.

Through two practices with the FiberXers, the former La Salle star has given a good account of himself.

“He looks great,” said Converge assistant coach Charles Tiu of Baltazar.

It is uncertain, though, whether Baltazar will suit up in the FiberXers’ next game against unbeaten NorthPort on Thursday, December 12, considering he is coming off a long MPBL season that ran from April to December.

“We will probably decide tomorrow,” said Tiu.

Toting a 2-1 card, Converge aims to deal the Batang Pier (4-0) their first loss, hopefully with Baltazar in tow. – Rappler.com
