MANILA, Philippines – It’s not a well-known fact, but a lot of personalities in Philippine arts and cinema came from Bacolod. Directors Peque Gallaga and Erik Matti hailed from Bacolod, as well as actors Susan Roces, Ronnie Lazaro, and Joel Torre. As the city continues to nurture different forms of art, its contribution to Philippine entertainment has been nothing but notable.

Walking through UP Diliman’s iconic Beta Way, show host Pató Gregorio catches up with Joel Torre, actor and entrepreneur. He was first known for his performance in the classic Peque Gallaga film Oro, Plata, Mata, and has since starred in more than 200 movies and numerous television series. He also put up a restaurant business, JT’s Manukan and Grille, which brings the famous Bacolod inasal to different parts of the country. He recently starred in a Netflix movie Lolo and the Kid, which was 42 years after he first starred in a movie.

In this episode, Torre shares his reflections after more than 40 years in show business, his takeaways as an entrepreneur, how he gives back to his community, and adopted a healthy lifestyle.

HOMESTRETCH aims to tell the stories of people that inspire us with their struggles and triumphs, and the places that help define our spirit as a nation.

Co-presented by Rappler and Duckworld, HOMESTRETCH is hosted by sportsman and tourism advocate Pató Gregorio.

Watch on Sunday, December 8, at 8 pm on Rappler’s YouTube and Facebook accounts. – Rappler.com
